Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was born on February 19, 1630 in the fort of Shivneri near Junnar in Maharashtra. His father’s name was Raja Shahaji Bhosale and mother’s name was Jijabai. King Shahaji had entrusted the security of Jijabai and Shivaji and the responsibility of managing his jagir to Dadoji Kondadev.
Dadoji Kondadev taught Shivaji to ride, swordsmanship, spear throwing, arrows etc. Mother Jijabai awakened the flame of self-respect and valor in Shivaji’s heart by narrating the stories of heroes like Ram, Krishna, Bhima, Abhimanyu etc.

First of all he fought with Nizamshahi and Adilshahi rulers and defeated them. After this Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to compete with the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. With his amazing strategy, he succeeded in dodging the huge army of the Mughal emperor.
In the end, after the sacrifices of many brave chieftains, the promise of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was fulfilled and in 1674 AD Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was coronated in the fort of Raigad.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj established excellent governance system with the help of ‘Ashta Pradhan-Mandal’ with the aim of safeguarding ‘Hindvi Swarajya’. He made good arrangements for his army and formed the navy of Marathas.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj built sea forts like Sindhudurg and Vijaydurg. He also started an intelligence department in his army. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj adopted a liberal policy in his administration. He had great respect for the sages and saints.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj protected the mosques and also respected the Quran. He also had great respect for Christian churches. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also had great respect for scholars.
His aim was to protect the gentlemen and punish the wicked. The name of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will always be inscribed in golden letters in the history of India.
